Rebuild and Maximum Privacy Sanitization Profiles

Rebuild and Maximum Privacy are available in PhotoSanitize Pro and Enterprise. Both create a new output image from decoded pixels, rather than depending on preservation of the original image container.

They are intended for situations where a more extensive transformation is appropriate. The main difference is that Maximum Privacy adds automatic visual detection and requires a completed review before sanitization.

Rebuild

Rebuild decodes the image and creates a new output containing the intended visual content. This provides a way to separate the resulting file from unnecessary metadata and additional structures associated with the original.

For instance, an organization receiving images from several external suppliers may prefer to reconstruct approved photographs before adding them to a public website. The reconstructed files are not simply copies of the original containers with a few fields deleted.

Rebuilding also has consequences for image fidelity. Depending on the source and output formats, it may involve new compression, changes in file size, color conversion, or different handling of transparency and animation.

The predefined Rebuild profile selects the first frame when processing a multiframe image. If you need to preserve animation or multiple TIFF pages, review the available frame options and format compatibility before proceeding.

Automatic detection of faces, text, and other sensitive visual objects is not enabled by Rebuild itself. You can still add manual redactions.

Maximum Privacy

Maximum Privacy combines reconstruction with automatic visual detection of faces, license plates, visible text, QR codes, and barcodes. It is intended for photographs that may reveal sensitive information both through hidden data and through the visible picture.

Consider a business photograph taken at a customer site. Metadata may identify the capture location or device, while the picture could show people, work documents, labels, or computer screens. Maximum Privacy addresses both categories by combining file cleanup with an explicit visual review.

The profile also enables normalization of output file timestamps.

Completing the required review

Maximum Privacy cannot proceed until its required visual detection and review have been completed for every included image.

  1. Analyze the photograph and open Visual Privacy.
  2. Run Detect to identify potential sensitive regions.
  3. Examine the picture and review the detected areas.
  4. Adjust the redaction selection and add any necessary manual regions.
  5. Choose Mark Reviewed before starting sanitization.

Mark Reviewed confirms that you have reviewed the selected visual findings. It does not mean that PhotoSanitize has independently established the appropriateness of the photograph for publication.

If you change relevant detections or redaction selections afterward, you may need to complete the review again.

Why the distinction matters

Rebuild is primarily a way to create a new image without retaining unnecessary aspects of the source container. Maximum Privacy adds a workflow for addressing visible information that might identify people, locations, or confidential material.

Both profiles may change technical image characteristics. Neither should be selected solely on the assumption that a more extensive operation always produces a better result for every format.

For ordinary photographs, this is usually straightforward to assess by viewing the sanitized output. For professional archives, animations, or specialized TIFF images, make sure that the chosen settings preserve the features required by the intended use.

Maximum Privacy is an interactive workflow. Its mandatory review is not available in headless Enterprise command-line processing.
