This page explains how licensing works for Probativa desktop software products.

Our licensing model is designed to be simple, predictable, and suitable for professional and organizational use.

Use of Probativa software is governed by the End User License Agreement (EULA). This page provides a practical explanation of licensing, but the EULA is the legally binding agreement.

Overview

Probativa desktop software is licensed using product keys.

Each product key:

  • Grants the right to use a specific edition of a product, limited to versions of that edition released during the active update period
  • Allows activation on one or more devices (seats), depending on the number of seats purchased.
  • Includes one year of software updates
  • Can be renewed to extend the update period

Licenses are per product, per edition, and limited to a defined range of versions, and are not transferable between different products, editions, or version ranges.

Probativa reserves the right to modify licensing mechanisms for future versions, provided that existing licenses continue to function according to the terms in effect at the time of purchase.

Product Keys and Seats

A product key corresponds to a defined number of allowed devices (seats).

  • A 1-seat license allows activation on one device
  • A multi-seat license allows activation on multiple devices using the same product key
  • The same product key may be activated on up to the licensed number of devices simultaneously

Example:

If you purchase a license with 3 seats, the same product key can be activated on three different devices.

Activation and Deactivation

Licenses are activated and managed directly within the desktop application, which connects to Probativa activation servers over the Internet.

To activate a license:

  • Open the application
  • Go to About → Licensing
  • Enter the product key
  • Click Activate

To deactivate a license:

  • Open the application on the device
  • Go to About → Licensing
  • Click Deactivate

Deactivation frees a seat, allowing the same product key to be activated on another device.

This makes it possible to:

  • Replace devices
  • Reassign licenses
  • Manage deployments without contacting support

Offline Use and Periodic Validation

After successful online activation, the software may be used offline.

However:

  • The software will periodically attempt to verify that the license is still valid by connecting to the activation servers.
  • If the software cannot reach the activation servers for more than 14 days, it will automatically revert to the Standard (non-activated) Edition.
  • Once a valid connection is restored and the license is confirmed as valid, the licensed edition will be re-enabled automatically.

Activation and validation mechanisms are a technical means of enforcing license terms and do not constitute a guarantee of uninterrupted operation in all circumstances.

Probativa does not guarantee uninterrupted availability of activation or validation services and is not liable for temporary service interruptions caused by maintenance, outages, technical failures, or events beyond its reasonable control.

Update Period

Each product key includes one year of software updates, starting from the purchase date.

During the update period:

  • All new versions of the licensed edition released during the update period are fully supported and functional.

After the update period ends:

  • New versions released after that date can still be downloaded
  • However, versions released more than one year after purchase will not activate with the original product key unless the update period is renewed
  • Versions released within the active update period will continue to work

This ensures:

  • Predictable licensing
  • Long-term reproducibility
  • Clear version control for regulated environments

Renewals

Renewals may be purchased to extend the update period:

  • Renewals can be purchased for 1 or 2 additional years
  • Renewals must be purchased before the current update period expires
  • Renewals extend the update period for the existing product key
  • Renewals can be purchased repeatedly, without limit

For multi-seat licenses:

  • A single renewal applies to all seats covered by the product key

Example:

A 3-seat license with an active renewal remains valid for all 3 devices.

License Revocation

Probativa reserves the right to revoke a license, at its reasonable discretion, in cases of misuse or violation of the licensing terms.
A license may be revoked for reasons including, but not limited to:

  • Sharing, reselling, or distributing a product key without authorization
  • Using the product key on more devices than the licensed number of seats
  • Circumventing or attempting to bypass licensing, activation, or validation mechanisms
  • Using the software in ways that violate the license agreement or applicable law
  • Obtaining the product key through fraudulent or unauthorized means
  • Chargebacks, payment reversals, or non-payment for the license

If a license is revoked:

  • Activations using that product key will fail
  • Existing activations will be disabled during the next validation check

License Scope and Use

Depending on the specific software edition acquired, licenses are intended for:

  • Professional use
  • Organizational and enterprise environments
  • Internal business operations

Licenses are not subscription-based for usage:

  • You retain the right to use supported editions and versions indefinitely
  • Renewals affect update eligibility, not usage rights

License activation is used solely to verify license validity and does not limit the perpetual usage rights granted under this license.
In the event that activation services are permanently discontinued, commercially reasonable measures will be taken to enable continued use of valid licenses.
