Working with Images and Inspection

Before sanitizing a photograph, PhotoSanitize can examine its contents and show you what information may need to be removed. Inspection covers more than ordinary camera metadata. Depending on the file format, the application can also identify embedded previews, additional media, container structures, provenance information, and selected Windows file-system properties.

The Photo Queue is where you organize the images you want to inspect or process. You can add individual files, select several photographs, or import an entire folder tree. Each image has its own analysis and processing status, so you can examine the results separately even when working with a larger collection.

The Inspector displays information about the currently highlighted image. Its Summary and Findings tabs provide an overview, while the Metadata, Container, Provenance, and File System views give you more detail when needed.

Start with Add Images and Folders to PhotoSanitize to learn how to build your queue. Understand the Photo Queue and Image Selection explains which files will be included in operations, and Analyze Images and Interpret Privacy Findings covers the inspection results.

For more technical information, Explore Image Metadata, Containers, and File-System Details describes what the Inspector reveals. Supported Image Formats and Special Cases explains format compatibility, decoding requirements, animation, and multipage images.

Inspection does not alter the original file. You can analyze an entire collection before deciding which photographs need sanitization, visual redaction, or a different output format.
