Deactivate and Transfer a PhotoSanitize License

If you replace a computer, reinstall Windows, or move a licensed installation to another device, you should deactivate the existing PhotoSanitize installation before activating the replacement. This releases the device’s activation seat for reuse, subject to the applicable license terms.

The procedure applies to Pro and Enterprise. Standard does not require a paid activation.

Deactivate the existing installation

  1. Start PhotoSanitize on the currently licensed computer.
  2. Open About and select the Licensing tab.
  3. Choose Deactivate.
  4. Confirm the deactivation when prompted.
  5. Restart the application after deactivation.

PhotoSanitize contacts the licensing service to release the activation associated with that computer. Deactivation must be completed successfully before you assume that the seat has become available.

The application may return to Standard after the paid activation is removed. This does not delete your photographs or previously generated sanitized files.

Activate the replacement computer

Install an eligible PhotoSanitize release on the new computer, open the Licensing tab, and activate the same product key. Restart the application and check that the correct edition is available.

Make sure the replacement computer meets the requirements of the purchased edition. In particular, an installation on Windows Server or in a virtual machine requires Enterprise.

If the license covers several devices, transferring one activation does not affect the installations assigned to other seats, provided the permitted activation count remains respected.

If the old computer is unavailable

Sometimes normal deactivation is impossible because a device has been lost, damaged, reformatted, or retired without first releasing the license. In that situation, contact Probativa Support rather than repeatedly attempting activation on additional machines.

Describe the circumstances and provide information sufficient to identify the affected purchase or activation. Avoid disclosing your complete product key in an ordinary message unless you are using an appropriate secure support procedure.

Managing licenses in an organization

Businesses with several installations benefit from keeping an internal record of assigned licenses, computer names, and device replacements. Deactivation can then be incorporated into the normal process for retiring workstations or virtual machines.

This is particularly important in virtualized environments where instances may be rebuilt or replaced more frequently than physical computers. Removing an application or deleting a virtual machine without completing deactivation should not be assumed to release its license seat.
