Windows and processor requirements
PDFSanitize is distributed as a 64-bit Windows application for x64-compatible systems. Consult the release information provided with the current installer for the Windows versions supported by that release.
Storage and working-space requirements
Provide enough free storage for:
- The original PDF files;
- The newly created sanitized PDFs;
- Temporary working copies used during structural rewriting;
- Temporary rendered page images when page reconstruction is required; and
- Any TXT, PDF, CSV, JSON, or certificate files that will be retained.
Maximum Assurance and selective hidden-text reconstruction can require substantially more temporary disk activity than structural-only sanitization, especially for long or image-heavy PDFs.
Display and desktop environment
PDFSanitize is a Windows desktop application with a graphical interface. A normal interactive Windows user session is required. The application runs with the privileges of the signed-in user; access to the source directory and the ability to create files in the output location are therefore required.
Edition restrictions
- Standard and Pro are intended for eligible physical, non-server Windows systems.
- Enterprise additionally permits supported use on Windows Server and in virtual-machine environments.
When Standard or Pro detects a virtual machine or Windows Server environment, the application can block normal use and request an Enterprise product key.
Network requirements
Standard does not require a paid-license activation. Pro and Enterprise require access to the Probativa licensing service for initial activation. After a successful online validation, protected local license data supports temporary offline validation for up to 14 days.
The application can also check the executable fingerprint against release information held by the Probativa licensing service. Failure to reach that service does not itself expose PDF content or upload documents.
Deployment validation
Before using PDFSanitize in a controlled production workflow, test representative documents and confirm:
- PDFs can be read from the intended source locations;
- Sanitized outputs can be written to the intended directories;
- Maximum Assurance performance is acceptable for typical document sizes;
- Licensing succeeds through the organization’s firewall or proxy path where required;
- Reports can be saved to the approved evidence repository; and
- The sanitized PDFs open correctly in the PDF readers used by recipients.
