Score and grade
DriveErase summarizes available health evidence as a score from 0 to 100 and a letter grade:
| Score | Grade |
| 90–100 | A |
| 75–89 | B |
| 60–74 | C |
| 40–59 | D |
| 0–39 | F |
Evidence considered
The score can be reduced by adverse evidence such as:
- Critical SMART indicators;
- Failed SMART self-tests;
- Unreadable blocks;
- Unusually slow blocks;
- Sampled write errors;
- Sampled read errors or mismatches;
- Low measured performance;
- Unavailable or incomplete diagnostic stages.
The exact evidence available depends on the selected assessment and controller path.
Grade interpretation
A grade is a decision-support summary, not a warranty or prediction of remaining life.
- A: No significant adverse evidence was found in the selected assessment.
- B: Generally good result with limited observations that may warrant normal review.
- C: Material concerns exist; use should be restricted according to policy.
- D: Poor condition or significant diagnostic concerns; quarantine or retirement is normally appropriate.
- F: Severe failures or incomplete critical tests; do not return the device to normal service without an approved exception.
Organizations should define their own acceptance thresholds. For example, a non-critical test lab may accept a grade that is unsuitable for a production database or endpoint containing regulated information.
Missing data
A score based on a quick SMART check is not equivalent to a score based on Full Health Assessment. Always record the selected method beside the grade.
When controller limitations prevent important tests, treat the result as constrained evidence rather than assuming good health.
