Offline cache
After successful online validation, CertErase stores protected license data locally for the current Windows user. This supports temporary operation without a network connection.
Locally protected license data remains valid for up to 14 days before CertErase requires another online validation.
Prepare for restricted environments
- Activate and validate the license while connected.
- Confirm the system clock is correct.
- Record the validation date.
- Test the intended offline workflow.
- Plan a controlled reconnection before the offline validity period ends.
- Confirm that evidence export destinations are available without network access.
Limitations
Offline use does not remove edition restrictions. Standard and Pro licenses do not support operation on a detected Windows Server or virtual machine.
Clock changes, user-profile replacement, device identity changes, damaged local license storage, or an expired cache can cause offline validation to fail.
Security of the cache
The local cache is protected using Windows data protection for the current user. Treat the Windows account and profile as part of the licensing trust boundary. Do not distribute, edit, or back up the cache as a transferable credential.
Recovery
When offline validation fails:
- Preserve the exact error;
- Check system date and time;
- Sign in as the originally activated Windows user;
- Restore approved network access;
- Validate the license online;
- Contact support if validation remains unavailable.
