Activate, Validate, and Transfer a CertErase License

Applies to: All editions

Activate a license

  1. Start CertErase on the target Windows device under the user who will operate it.
  2. Select the Help tab.
  3. Select License.
  4. Enter the license key exactly as issued.
  5. Ensure that outbound access to the Probativa licensing service is permitted.
  6. Submit the activation request.
  7. Confirm the activated product, edition, and update entitlement.
  8. Check the interface and perform a controlled test erasure.

Periodic validation

CertErase periodically validates the license and relevant product information. Validation can identify an invalid, revoked, wrong-product, over-activated, or out-of-update-period license. Preserve the exact message when contacting support.

Deactivate a license

Deactivate before moving a license to another device or permanently replacing the workstation:

  1. Select the Help tab.
  2. Select License.
  3. Select Deactivate.
  4. Maintain internet connectivity until confirmation.
  5. Close and restart the application if instructed.
  6. Activate on the replacement device.

Do not copy local license files as a transfer method. The protected cache is tied to the device and Windows user context.

Common activation outcomes

  • Invalid key: Recheck Product Key and product assignment.
  • Revoked: Contact the license administrator or Probativa.
  • Wrong product: Use a key issued for CertErase.
  • Activation limit reached:Deactivate an old device.
  • Update period expired: Use an entitled product version or renew as applicable.
  • Environment not permitted: Confirm activated edition compatibility with Windows Server or virtual machines.
