Profiles and modes are different
A profile is a predefined set of sanitization choices. A mode determines how page content is physically produced.
PDFSanitize provides four profiles:
- Metadata Only;
- External Sharing;
- Strict Privacy;
- Maximum Assurance.
It provides two modes:
- Preserve Quality;
- Maximum Assurance.
The Maximum Assurance profile selects Maximum Assurance mode automatically. Advanced editions can also build custom combinations through Sanitization Options.
Preserve Quality mode
Preserve Quality rewrites selected document structures while keeping normal PDF page content when possible. Text and vector objects are retained on unaffected pages.
If hidden or off-page text is selected for removal and detected on a page, PDFSanitize reconstructs only that affected page from rendered content. Other pages remain in their normal PDF form.
Maximum Assurance mode
Maximum Assurance reconstructs every page from a rendered representation. The new pages do not retain the original page-level text and vector objects as source PDF objects.
The predefined Maximum Assurance profile also removes metadata, identifiers, previous revisions, annotations, forms, embedded files, active actions, optional-content structures, hyperlinks, bookmarks, and hidden/off-page text.
Edition behavior
PDFSanitize Standard edition offers Metadata Only or External Sharing. It can inspect the resulting Sanitization Options but cannot change the advanced controls to create an arbitrary policy.
PDFSanitize Pro and Enterprise offer all four profiles, allow switching sanitization mode, and changing individual sanitization options.
Verification and hashes
Automatic post-sanitization verification and SHA-256 calculation are available in all editions and can be enabled or disabled independently of the predefined structural profile. Both are enabled by default in the profile definitions.
Previous or incremental revisions are always removed and cannot be disabled.
