Deactivate or Transfer a DriveErase License

Applies to: All editions

When to deactivate

Deactivate DriveErase before:

  • Replacing the licensed computer;
  • Permanently removing the software;
  • Rebuilding the device in a way that changes its license identity;
  • Transferring the entitlement to another authorized workstation;
  • Returning a leased or managed endpoint.

Deactivation releases the current activation for reuse according to the applicable license terms.

Before deactivation

  1. Complete any approved sanitization job.
  2. Confirm that no job is staged for restart.
  3. Export and retain required reports.
  4. Record the old device, license owner, reason for transfer, and destination under the software-asset procedure.
  5. Ensure the computer can reach the licensing service.

Deactivate

  1. Start DriveErase.
  2. Open the license area by selecting Help > License
  3. Select the Deactivate button.
  4. Confirm the request.

After deactivation, non-standard features are no longer available on that installation until a license is activated again.

Activate on the replacement computer

Install DriveErase on the replacement system and activate using the authorized product key. Confirm that the expected edition and environment rights are applied before planning a production job.

When the original computer is unavailable

When hardware failure, loss, or prior disposal prevents normal deactivation, contact Probativa Support. Provide the order or account information, partial key identification where requested, the old device description, and the reason the original activation cannot be released locally. Never send the full product key through an unsecured public channel.
